Despite the title, Rave Tapes is not the Scots post-rockers’ attempt to jump on the Daft Punk/Robin Thicke disco bandwagon with a cynical stab at the pop charts.
Is it just another Mogwai album then? Well, yes and no. Yes, it veers from moments of sublime beauty to semi-techno assaults on the senses, sometimes within the same track.
No, it won’t make them household names, but newbies or those who had forgotten they were still going might be pleasantly surprised.
