Caro Emerald: The Shocking Miss Emerald

THERE’S a song at the end of The Shocking Miss Emerald, the Dutch jazz-pop singing sensation’s follow-up to 2010’s Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor, called The Wonderful in You.
Slinky, well sung and rhythmically seductive, it’s the kind of song you immediately want to grab a partner and shimmy across a dancefloor to.
It’s far and away the best thing on this record. Problem is, none of the 12 tracks that precede it are in the same league. They’re all highly listenable, pleasant and inoffensive and will undoubtedly go down a storm with fans of Deleted Scenes …
The Shocking … swings along jazzily and is an enjoyable pop LP. Just don’t expect anything more.
