Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways

 Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways

Never having quite understood the fuss about the Foo Fighters – whom it seems to me wouldn’t be nearly so popular had Dave Grohl never been in Nirvana – news that their new album was to be recorded in eight different US cities failed to excite.

Great music doesn’t need big concepts; it just needs to be great, end of story.

The Foos have undoubtedly made some terrific singles in the past (This Is A Call and Learn to Fly are beyond reproach) but there’s nothing on Sonic Highways up to that standard.

It turns out that Grohl is rather good at Kiss-esque melodic metal, and centrepiece What Did I Do?/God As My Witness is by some distance the highlight here.

For fans only.
