It’s little short of a crime that the Pixies, a Boston four-piece who changed the face of rock in the late 1980s, are perhaps best known today as being the band Kurt Cobain was trying to rip off when he wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Doolittle, released 25 years ago this year, is the band’s best (although hardcore fans might argue) and undoubtedly most commercial record, and this three-CD edition, complete with B-sides and Peel sessions, is absolutely essential.
If you’ve not heard Debaser and Wave of Mutilation and Here Comes Your Man then this should be the next album you buy; if you have then the extra discs are a treat too.
