Fall Out Boy, American Beauty/American Psycho

Currently sitting pretty at number two in the album chart, Fall Out Boy’s brand of shouty pop punk needs no promotion.
It’s as subtle as a brick, and it’s no surprise that teenagers who have graduated from boy bands to “real music” are such fans.
Songs like Novocaine, Irresistible and the title track are packed with the same ingredients (big chorus, breakdown and cliched lyrics) as your average teen pop song – just coated in guitars instead of keyboards.
The band claimed this week that songs they had written for One Direction had been rejected for being “too weird” – on this evidence it’s more likely that they just weren’t good enough.
