Liverpool all-female trio Stealing Sheep have taken a step forward from the psychedelic folk of their 2012 debut Into The Diamond Sun with Not Real.
Although a couple of songs hark back to the sound which established them as firm favourites in the hugely competitive Merseyside music scene, on the lion’s share of the album’s 10 tracks the band take rich electro-pop and twist it into all kinds of different shapes.
Their music, rarely dull, is not like much else out there and at times is fascinating to listen to but there’s nothing here to elevate them from the indie slipstream, but what’s lacking, even on stand-out tracks Love, She and Sequence, is truly memorable songwriting.
