The Proclaimers, Let’s Hear it for the Dogs

The two-disc Very Best of,  issued in 2013, proved quite how many brilliant songs the Reid brothers had recorded in their 25+ year career – while making a rod for their own back.

Brilliant songwriters they may be, but hugely varied musical stylists they are most certainly not, and any non-devotees who may have picked up that anthology on the back of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) or Letter from America will almost certainly have concluded that its 30 tracks are enough to last them a lifetime.

Fans will buy this new album regardless and enjoy hearing the brothers’ take on fatherhood (Ten Tiny Fingers) and the Jimmy Savile scandal (Then Again), but it’s unlikely to trouble the charts.
