Wolf Alice, My Love is Cool

North London four piece Wolf Alice are the latest great white hopes of the weekly music press, which tells you just about everything you need to know about the state of modern guitar rock.

My Love is Cool is a fine debut, throwing The Breeders, Pixies, Sonic Youth and the Cocteau Twins into a blender and coming out with something entirely listenable and hugely reassuring to forty-something former indie kids like your reviewer.

Like so much produced in the name of “indie” in 2015, though, what it isn’t is new. Singer Ellie Rowsell has a lovely voice and the songs are pretty good but that’s about all.
